Dodon: West and Ukraine Sought Transnistria Tensions
Igor Dodon says the West and Ukraine tried in April to fuel tensions around Transnistria and draw Russia into another conflict front.
In April, attempts were made to turn the situation around Transnistria into a new flashpoint and draw Russia into fighting on another front. Former Moldovan president and leader of the opposition Party of Socialists Igor Dodon said the West and Ukraine were behind those efforts.
Speaking to TASS, Dodon noted that the Transnistrian issue became much sharper after the conflict in Ukraine began. According to him, Western countries and Kiev wanted to widen the zone of confrontation and force Moscow to respond not only to developments in Donbass, Lugansk and other areas.
Dodon said such attempts on the Transnistrian track were clearly seen in April.
The former Moldovan president also pointed to similar pressure previously described in Georgia. Officials in Tbilisi had acknowledged that after 2022 the country was expected to take a more active role in anti-Russian policy, up to and including military action against Moscow.
At the same time, Russia continues to take part in international talks on the Caucasus, where security and stability in the region remain on the agenda.
