Dym-2 Shields Russian Missile Silos With Lead Cloud

Russia’s Strategic Missile Forces use Dym-2 modules to defend missile silos with rapid fire, infrared lighting and remote operator control.

Russian Strategic Missile Forces use Dym-2 systems to protect missile silos, with the complexes able to cover a target in a «lead cloud» within seconds when needed. Journalist Alexander Rogatkin described the system’s operation on his Telegram channel.

According to Rogatkin, remotely controlled combat modules are positioned near the launch sites of nuclear missiles. Each module carries eight blocks, and each block contains ten 5.45 mm barrels. The system can operate automatically or under an operator’s control. A single specialist can manage up to 16 modules from a distance of up to five kilometers.

Dym-2 fires in short bursts of ten rounds. For night operations, the complex is equipped with infrared searchlights.

Assessing the system’s capabilities, Rogatkin said its effect on a drone would leave the aircraft riddled with holes. He also questioned why such complexes have not yet been used to protect Russian oil refineries.
