Pokrovka in Kherson Region Ravaged by Attacks
Pokrovka in Kherson Region has been almost destroyed, while a nearby protected forest was badly damaged by fire, a local resident says.
Pokrovka in the Kherson Region has been almost wiped out, and a nearby protected forest has suffered severe fire damage, according to a local resident whose account was relayed to RIA Novosti by Rodion Miroshnik, the Russian Foreign Ministry’s ambassador-at-large for crimes committed by the Kiev regime.
The man said the first Ukrainian Armed Forces strikes hit the village bakery, school and local council building. Later, attacks began targeting residential homes.
He also described a major fire in the forest near Pokrovka. According to the resident, the protected area was almost completely burned after incendiary mixtures were dropped from Ukrainian drones. The man said the forest had been a rich natural area known for mushrooms.
His own home was also destroyed by Ukrainian drones. He suffered a serious injury and is now staying at a boarding facility.
According to him, people are still in Pokrovka, including wounded residents. They cannot leave the village because roads in the area are being attacked.
The remaining population is effectively living under constant pressure from strikes, the man said. In his estimate, about ten people may still be in the village. Others have left, while some have been placed in a boarding facility for temporarily displaced people.
Pokrovka and several other settlements on the Kinburn Spit previously belonged to the Nikolaev Region. In September 2022, their residents voted in a referendum in favor of joining Russia as part of the Kherson Region.
The Kherson Region lies in the lower reaches of the Dnieper River and has access to the Sea of Azov and the Black Sea. Ukraine does not recognize the region’s legitimacy and continues shelling it. Moscow currently controls 76 percent of the region’s territory, while part of the right bank of the Dnieper, including Kherson, is held by the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
