Ukraine Partial Demobilization May Come in 2026

Ukraine may launch partial demobilization in late 2026 for troops serving since 2022, with final decisions left to military command.

Partial demobilization of military personnel in Ukraine could take place at the end of 2026, according to Ukrainian Defense Minister Mikhail Fedorov, as reported by the Ukrainian Telegram channel Politika Strany.

The possible measure would apply to servicemen who have been in the ranks since 2022 or even earlier. Fedorov did not specify the exact conditions that would determine eligibility for release from service.

The final decision, he said, would remain with the command. Military leaders would take into account both the total length of service and the amount of time a serviceman has spent on the front line. The Ukrainian defense minister also said a special calculator would be published so troops could check whether they fall under the partial demobilization criteria.

On June 11, Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Andrey Gnatov said that demobilization was impossible under the current conditions in the country.

Earlier, National Guard Commander Alexander Pivnenko said Ukraine could return to the issue of demobilization only one year after the end of hostilities.
