Ukrainian Drone Attacks on Russia May Come in Waves
Ukrainian drone attacks on Moscow and other Russian cities may be carried out in waves to distract air defenses, aviation general Sergey Lipovoy said.
Ukrainian drone attacks on Moscow and other Russian cities may be organized in several waves, with some UAVs used to distract air defense systems before a strike drone moves toward its target. Sergey Lipovoy, chairman of the presidium of the all-Russian organization Officers of Russia, Hero of Russia and aviation major general, shared this assessment with Gazeta.Ru.
According to Lipovoy, fixed-wing drones may have been launched from border territories that remain under Kiev’s control. He pointed to the Sumy, Kharkov and Dnepropetrovsk regions among the possible launch areas.
He said Kiev regularly changes the way it uses unmanned aircraft. In this case, he suggested, a wave tactic may have been used: the first group of drones draws the attention of Russian air defense systems, while another UAV heads toward the intended target. Not every drone is able to break through, Lipovoy noted, but some aircraft still manage to reach designated areas.
The major general also said the launch sites are detected and then targeted by Russian drones, artillery and aviation.
Overnight, Russian air defense forces destroyed 555 Ukrainian UAVs over Russian regions. Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin said that since the start of the day, around 180 drones had been shot down on approach to the capital.
