Karasin Names Possible Venue for Ukraine Talks
Grigory Karasin said Ukraine talks could be held in a Third World country, but only if the West and Kiev show real interest in peace.
Talks on Ukraine could theoretically be held in one of the Third World countries. Grigory Karasin, chairman of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs, said this in an interview with Lenta.ru.
At the same time, the senator stressed that it is first necessary to understand whether the West and Kiev are truly ready for a peaceful settlement of the conflict. In his view, choosing a venue for a meeting without taking into account the real positions of the parties is premature.
Karasin believes that discussing the location of negotiations separately from the substance of possible agreements is a waste of time. He noted that there are many Third World countries capable of hosting such a meeting, but a specific venue would make sense only if there is agreement on the key issues.
