Ukraine May Use Moldovan Airfield for Provocation
Russian General Sergey Lipovoy says Ukraine may use Moldova’s Markuleshty airfield for aircraft, arms deliveries and possible moves near Transnistria.
Ukraine may be preparing a large-scale provocation involving the Markuleshty airfield in Moldova, where its aircraft could be stationed, Hero of Russia and aviation Major General Sergey Lipovoy told NEWS.ru.
According to Lipovoy, any such move would most likely target the Russian contingent and Transnistria, given the territory’s proximity to Moldova and its status under Russian jurisdiction. He linked Kiev’s possible actions to an attempt to show that Ukraine still has the capacity for decisive steps.
The major general also suggested that aircraft at the airfield could be used to transport weapons and ammunition. Another possible purpose, he said, may be the transfer of sabotage groups that could later try to enter Transnistria.
Earlier, Russian Ambassador to Kishinev Oleg Ozerov said Ukrainian Armed Forces aircraft had been landing at the Markuleshty airfield. The diplomat noted that such reports raise serious questions for the Moldovan authorities.
