Admiral Grigorovich Incident Shows Russian Navy Resolve

British analyst Alexander Mercouris says the Admiral Grigorovich incident with Bright Future showed Russian Navy readiness to act under navigation rules.

The incident in the English Channel involving the Russian warship Admiral Grigorovich and the civilian yacht Bright Future demonstrated the Russian Navy’s readiness to carry out its assigned missions, including with the use of weapons if necessary, British military expert and geopolitical analyst Alexander Mercouris said.

According to Mercouris, the episode showed that Russia was taking the situation seriously and was prepared to use weapons, should the need arise, in order to complete its mission.

On June 16, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that the crew of the Russian frigate Admiral Grigorovich had made several attempts to contact the sailing yacht Bright Future, which was flying the British flag. The vessel did not respond.

According to the ministry, the yacht was moving on a dangerous course and closing in on the Russian warship. The frigate’s crew first launched signal flares and then decided to fire a warning shot in the direction of the approaching vessel.

The Russian Defense Ministry emphasized that the actions of the Admiral Grigorovich crew were fully in line with international navigation rules.
