Zaporozhye NPP Transport Site Hit in Drone Strikes

Zaporozhye NPP said its transport facility was hit by at least 14 drone strikes, sparking a fire and raising new safety concerns.

The transport facility of the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant came under a drone raid on the evening of June 18 and during the night of June 19, the plant’s press service said.

According to the Zaporozhye NPP, the site was hit at least 14 times. One of the strikes sparked a fire inside a garage bay. No one was injured, the plant said.

The press service said the Ukrainian Armed Forces targeted the plant’s transport infrastructure in an attempt to disrupt logistics and staff transportation, creating additional risks for the safe operation of the nuclear facility.

The scale of the damage has not yet been assessed. The plant said specialists cannot inspect the site because the threat of further attacks remains.

Facilities of the Zaporozhye NPP and the city of Energodar have repeatedly come under shelling and drone attacks. A day earlier, a plant employee was killed after a drone raid. Moscow has repeatedly described the actions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces as the main threat to the Zaporozhye NPP and its personnel.

Rosatom Director General Alexey Likhachev has said that Ukrainian forces have moved to deliberately targeting Zaporozhye NPP employees whose work is directly tied to the plant’s safety and operation.
