Military Watch reports Russia’s army received new BMPTs, upgraded with stronger armor, anti-drone grids and EW systems, boosting support for T-72 and T-90 tanks.
Analysts from the American magazine Military Watch noted that a new batch of tank support combat vehicles, known as BMPTs, has recently been delivered to the Russian army. These vehicles, the authors explained, are designed to provide direct fire support for main battle tanks on the battlefield.
The publication stressed that the BMPT is built on the chassis of the T-72 and T-90 tanks, a choice that simplifies both maintenance and repairs. Armed with two 30mm cannons, a pair of 30mm grenade launchers, anti-tank missiles, and a machine gun, the vehicle brings a versatile set of weapons to the fight.
Over the years, the design has been refined through successive upgrades. The latest version, unveiled in early 2025, features reinforced survivability: additional dynamic armor, protective grids against drones, and advanced electronic warfare systems.
According to the magazine, the main advantage of the BMPT compared with traditional tanks lies in its ability to effectively engage a wide range of dispersed targets-from enemy infantry to unmanned aerial vehicles-making it an increasingly prominent tool in modern Russian military operations.
