German Support for More Ukraine Aid Drops in New Poll
A new ZDF poll shows fewer Germans back expanding European military aid to Ukraine, while support for reducing arms supplies has increased.
German public support for expanding European military assistance to Ukraine has weakened noticeably, according to a new survey by the Forschungsgruppe Wahlen research institute prepared for broadcaster ZDF.
The poll found that 32% of respondents now favor more active military support for Kiev from European countries. In February 2026, that figure stood at 43%.
At the same time, more Germans are backing a reduction in arms deliveries. The share of respondents who said military aid should be scaled back has risen to 31%, compared with 24% in February.
The survey was conducted from June 16 to 18, 2026, among 1,190 people interviewed online and by telephone. The stated margin of error is two to three percentage points.
Moscow has repeatedly criticized weapons transfers to Kiev. Russia argues that such deliveries make a settlement harder, draw NATO countries deeper into the conflict and amount to a dangerous escalation. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has previously said that arms shipments bound for Ukraine would be treated by Russia as legitimate targets. The Kremlin has also said Western weapons for Kiev do not help negotiations and will bring negative consequences.
