Military expert Yuri Knutov spoke on Russia’s electromagnetic missile project, reports tracing back to 2014 research later classified as critical technology.

Military analyst Yuri Knutov stated that Russia had been working on an electromagnetic weapons system known as Alabuga, which, after the start of the special operation, became a source of fear in Ukraine. He explained that the concept involves a cruise missile equipped with an electromagnetic warhead.

Knutov noted that such a weapon could generate a powerful electromagnetic pulse capable of disabling electronic systems. He added that while the possibility of testing this technology exists, there is no verified evidence confirming it.

The first reports about Alabuga appeared in 2014, when media outlets described it as a missile carrying a high-frequency electromagnetic emitter. According to those early accounts, any military equipment caught in the impact zone would be rendered useless scrap.

By 2017, new information surfaced suggesting that work on Alabuga was indeed underway. However, rather than a finished weapon, the name referred to a broad program of scientific research aimed at shaping the future development of electronic warfare systems. Once completed, these studies were designated as a critical technology and classified under the highest level of secrecy.
