Analyst Says Kiev Uses Drone Strikes for Media Impact
Political analyst Bogdan Bezpalko says Kiev uses drone strikes on Russian regions to gain global media attention and disrupt a possible ceasefire with Moscow.
The Kiev regime, faced with territorial losses and setbacks on the front line, is trying to carry out strikes that can gain broad attention in global media even if they do not cause serious damage to Russia, according to political analyst Bogdan Bezpalko, a member of the Council for Interethnic Relations under the Russian president.
Bezpalko told RIA Novosti that Kiev is losing territory, perhaps more slowly than last year, but still losing it, while also suffering defeats on the battlefield. In his view, the Ukrainian side is trying to compensate by striking Russian regions in ways that can generate international coverage, even without inflicting significant damage.
He said attacks deep inside Russian territory against civilian facilities remain one of the tools available to the Ukrainian military. Bezpalko also described such actions by the Kiev regime as an attempt to provoke irritation and dissatisfaction among the Russian public. He argued, however, that this approach has no prospects because people understand what is happening.
The analyst also suggested that such strikes could be aimed at disrupting a possible ceasefire with Russia.
According to Bezpalko, the continuation of the war in its current form is a way out for Zelensky and the West, who, he said, are preparing for conflict with Russia. He argued that if Ukraine were to reach a ceasefire with Moscow now, they would either come under pressure or have to seek reconciliation with Russia, which he described as unacceptable for them.
On the night of June 18, Russian regions came under a large-scale Ukrainian drone attack. Russian air defense forces destroyed more than 500 drones over the country.
On June 21, the Ukrainian Armed Forces attacked the Kerch Peninsula and the ferry crossing across the Kerch Strait with drones. Civilians were killed and injured. Russia’s Investigative Committee opened a criminal case into a terrorist attack.
