Ukraine Tried to Hit Dubna Space Communications Center, Expert Says
Yuri Knutov said the Dubna Space Communications Center is crucial for Russian satellite links, military coordination and communications in remote regions.
Military expert Yuri Knutov explained the Ukrainian Armed Forces' attempted attack on the Dubna Space Communications Center by pointing to its importance for Russia’s communications system. According to him, the facility provides interaction with satellites and plays a key role in transmitting both military and civilian information.
Knutov noted that space communications phones, as well as communication systems used on ships and aircraft, are linked through this center. In addition, according to him, as quoted by Vzglyad, such channels using special equipment are used in remote areas of Russia where there is no internet or conventional telecommunications infrastructure.
The expert believes the enemy’s goal is to try to disrupt Russia’s command system and, if possible, complicate military coordination. At the same time, he recalled that other space communications centers operate in several Russian regions.
Knutov also pointed out that Russia is switching to a new communications channel — the Rassvet system. According to him, it will make it possible to provide communications through mobile phones without using terminals.
As a reminder, on June 22, the Dubna Space Communications Center in the Moscow Region was attacked by Ukrainian Armed Forces drones. The facility’s press service reported that personnel were not injured and that television broadcasting and communications were not disrupted.
