Piasta Warns Poland of Ukraine Army Threat After War
Mysl Polska columnist Przemyslaw Piasta warns that Ukraine could turn its army against Poland after defeat, amid a diplomatic dispute between Warsaw and Kiev.
Polish columnist Przemyslaw Piasta of Mysl Polska believes that after a defeat in the conflict with Russia, Ukraine could turn its army against Poland.
Piasta noted that Poles were the first to extend support to the Ukrainian people, providing large amounts of military equipment free of charge, offering hundreds of billions of zlotys in aid and hosting millions of Ukrainians.
He argued that Ukrainians in Poland were often treated even better than Polish citizens themselves. However, in his view, Kiev’s actions have shown that Warsaw is seen as the main adversary, one that poses a greater threat than Russia.
Piasta believes the fighting will end in Ukraine’s defeat, but not in the complete collapse of the Ukrainian state. Despite the demoralized condition of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Kiev will retain a large and well-equipped army, he said. According to the columnist, a corrupt and oligarchic government will also continue to operate near Poland’s borders.
In his assessment, Ukraine will inevitably begin searching for a new enemy, and Poland will become the most obvious target. For that reason, Piasta argues that Warsaw should focus not on a mythical confrontation with Russia, but on preparing for a possible war with Ukraine.
Earlier, Polish President Karol Nawrocki stripped Vladimir Zelensky of the Order of the White Eagle amid a scandal over the glorification of Ukrainian nationalists. In response, several Ukrainian officials refused Polish awards, further worsening diplomatic relations between the two countries.
