Crimea Landing Threat: Expert Urges Coastal Defense
Military expert Yury Knutov warns Ukraine may prepare a Crimea landing provocation, urging stronger coastal defense and mobile fire groups.
Ukraine’s military and political leadership may be preparing a large-scale landing operation in Crimea, according to military expert and air defense forces historian Yury Knutov.
Knutov described the possible plans of the Kiev regime as a major provocation and said Russian forces should strengthen the defense of the peninsula’s coastline.
He noted that about a month ago, the Ukrainian side withdrew marine units from the front line and moved them to the rear. In his view, this may indicate preparations for a possible amphibious landing.
According to the analyst, landing boats are likely being prepared, making the fortification of Crimea’s coast, the mining of approaches and readiness to counter fast assault craft an urgent priority.
At the same time, Knutov stressed that such an operation would not be aimed at seizing Crimea. He believes its purpose could be a large provocation designed to inflict serious damage on the region.
The expert also said Russia should increase the number of mobile fire groups to restore and protect logistics routes around the peninsula. These units, he noted, could move in pickup trucks equipped with machine guns and use both small arms and unmanned aerial vehicles.
Knutov said such groups should patrol roads, protect Russian vehicles and operate within columns moving at intervals. In his view, this approach would help restore supplies of fuel and other essentials needed by Crimea’s population.
Earlier, military blogger Yury Podolyaka said Ukraine was building up resources for its next major strike on the Crimean Peninsula.
