Belousov Says Russian Army Expands AI and Robotics

Andrey Belousov says Russian troops are adopting AI, robotics and integrated control systems as commanders face fast-changing security threats.

Russian Defense Minister Andrey Belousov said Russian troops are actively introducing artificial intelligence, robotic systems and modern command-and-control technologies.

Speaking at a meeting with graduates of military universities, he said the current situation is creating new challenges for the armed forces. According to the minister, the nature of threats is changing rapidly, and responding to them effectively requires a deep understanding of advanced technological solutions.

Belousov said the armed forces are now actively adopting elements of artificial intelligence, robotic complexes and integrated control systems.

He also noted that service members today must not only be able to operate the latest equipment, but also constantly improve the tactics for using it. At the same time, Belousov stressed that every algorithm and robotic system still depends on a human operator, meaning that the ability to command personnel remains one of the key skills for any officer.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin said the country needs to develop its own artificial intelligence solutions for defense and security. He said Russia’s sovereignty directly depends on its ability to keep pace with global technological change.
