CNN: US F-15 Pilot Saw Strange Iranian Drone Swarm
CNN says a US F-15 pilot saw an unusual Iranian drone swarm over Iran, raising questions about networked UAV technology and the crash probe.
According to CNN journalists, the pilot of a US Air Force F-15 fighter jet shot down over Iran in April reported seeing unusual drones shortly before ejecting.
He told intelligence officers that he had spotted a group of Iranian unmanned aerial vehicles moving in sync and forming a structure that resembled a jellyfish. The pilot described it as an interconnected swarm acting as a single unit, with larger drones positioned above smaller ones, creating the impression of tentacles.
CNN noted that US intelligence had previously had no information indicating Iran possessed technology capable of operating drones within a unified network. Early assessments did not rule out that this drone group may have played a role in the destruction of the aircraft, though the investigation into the crash is still ongoing.
If confirmed, the account could point to a serious advance in Iranian unmanned systems, including the ability to coordinate several drones under a single controlled network.
