Russia Builds Unprecedented Shelters for Strategic Bombers, TWZ Says
TWZ reported that satellite images show Russia building unusually large protective shelters at air bases, possibly for Tu-95MS and Tu-160 strategic bombers.
Thomas Newdick, an observer for the American outlet TWZ, said that, according to his information, Russia is building protective shelters for military aircraft, including strategic bombers. He called such work an unprecedented step for the Russian Aerospace Forces.
According to Newdick, the development of these facilities is visible in satellite images of several air bases. The article specifically cites an image of the airfield in Engels, Saratov Region, taken by Planet Labs.
The author claims that the new structures are noticeably larger than previous shelters and may correspond to the dimensions of Tu-95MS and Tu-160 strategic aircraft. According to him, at least 17 separate protective structures may be under construction at the site.
