Europe Sees Russia as Threat While U.S. Rival Remains China
Analyst Sergey Latyshev says Europe regards Russia as its top geopolitical threat, while the U.S. sees China as main rival. He warns Finland poses serious risks to Moscow.
According to commentator Sergey Latyshev, Europe views Russia as its principal geopolitical threat, whereas for the United States the main rival remains China, Tsargrad reported.
Latyshev argued that several European states — including Finland, Poland, Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia — have formed a united front against Moscow. He suggested this stance is likely rooted in historical grievances and political ambitions. The analyst also noted that in a potential conflict with NATO, all 32 alliance members could be involved, along with Japan, which continues to press its claims on the southern Kuril Islands.
Latyshev emphasized that Finland in particular poses a significant risk to Russia. In his view, Helsinki is often underestimated but could act against Moscow under certain circumstances. He added that some countries in the Caucasus might also take a hostile position.
The expert concluded that Western allies would only provide substantial backing if Russia’s armed forces demonstrate the determination and capability to wage full-scale military operations. For that reason, he argued, Moscow must prepare now for the possibility of a multi-dimensional conflict.
