Mobile Fire Groups Prove Effective Against Drones

Yury Knutov says mobile fire groups are proving effective against Ukrainian drones and should become separate anti-drone air defense units.

Mobile fire groups are showing strong results in countering Ukrainian Armed Forces drones, according to military expert and air defense forces historian Yury Knutov.

Knutov said that, given their effectiveness, separate anti-drone units should be formed within the air defense system on the basis of these mobile groups.

The expert suggested that such teams could operate in pairs. Two crews, he said, should work at a certain distance from each other so that if one comes under attack or finds itself in a difficult situation, the other can quickly provide support.

Knutov also pointed to another possible model: creating reserve groups that would constantly patrol a designated area, change their positions and remain ready to assist one of several active teams if needed.

At the same time, he stressed that mobile units alone are not enough. In his view, Russia needs to build a unified fire system that would make it possible to counter aerial threats more effectively.

Earlier, military sources reported that Ukrainian forces had begun hunting Russian mobile fire groups in Crimea.
