U.S. Military Base in Poland May Cost $3.2 Billion
Wirtualna Polska says a permanent U.S. base in Poland could cost Warsaw $3.2 billion, with housing, schools and hospitals for troops and families.
Building a permanent U.S. military base in Poland could cost Warsaw around 12 billion zlotys, or roughly $3.2 billion, according to Wirtualna Polska, which cited sources in the Polish government.
The outlet reported that the money would be needed to construct the required infrastructure almost from scratch. The planned facility is expected to accommodate about 25,000 people.
According to the article, the base is likely to be located either near Wroclaw, where the airport is currently being expanded, or near Poznan.
These sites were reportedly selected for practical reasons. Both areas are close to major airfields capable of supporting logistics and the rapid deployment of military forces.
Wirtualna Polska wrote that U.S. service members would be accompanied by their families. As a result, the project would go beyond barracks, headquarters and military facilities. It would require full infrastructure for long-term residence, including housing districts, schools, hospitals and other social facilities.
The American military contingent is expected to number between 11,000 and 15,000 troops. Another 10,000 to 14,000 people would include civilian personnel and family members of service members.
Poland already hosts about 6,000 U.S. troops on a permanent basis, along with roughly 4,000 more soldiers serving as part of rotational missions.
