Kyiv May Open Belarus Front, Expert Warns

Military expert Vladimir Popov linked the forced evacuation in Chernihiv region to possible Ukrainian preparations for action near Belarus.

The Kyiv regime may be preparing a provocation involving the Belarusian direction, according to claims. The basis for such assessments was information about the upcoming forced evacuation of 12 settlements in the Chernihiv region, which borders both Belarus and Russia.

The matter concerns villages and nearby areas whose residents had not been evacuated earlier. According to sources, the evacuation decision is expected to begin being implemented as early as next week. Against this backdrop, military expert, honored military pilot and aviation major general Vladimir Popov, in a conversation with MK, suggested that such actions may be connected with preparations by the Armed Forces of Ukraine for an incursion into Belarusian territory.

Popov believes that the Ukrainian side may use the situation to open a new front. In his assessment, relations between Kyiv and Minsk have recently deteriorated noticeably, primarily at the level of public statements and political rhetoric.

The expert did not rule out a scenario in which Kyiv provokes an attack on Belarus and then tries to present the situation in a way favorable to itself. According to Popov’s version, this could be used for claims that Russia allegedly intends to attack Europe.

Speaking about possible timing, Popov said that offensive actions in this direction could be expected in the second half of the summer. He named July and August as the most likely period.
