The mysterious UVB-76 radio station transmitted two coded words on October 2, just before Vladimir Putin’s Valdai speech. Western media link it to Russia’s nuclear forces.

On October 2, the shortwave radio station UVB-76 transmitted two new coded messages, an event that occurred shortly before President Vladimir Putin addressed the Valdai Discussion Club.

According to the Telegram channel UVB-76 Logs, the first message aired at 13:15 Moscow time and included the word «tubokek». The second, broadcast at 14:30, contained the word «lesovyuk».

No official information about UVB-76’s purpose has ever been released. The station, active since 1975, is known primarily for transmitting a constant background tone, a feature that earned it the nickname «the buzzer» among radio enthusiasts.

Western journalists have suggested that UVB-76 may be linked to Russia’s nuclear forces and could function as part of the safeguard mechanism of the «Perimeter» automatic retaliation system. This theory is the basis for its other name: the «Doomsday Radio».
