Davis Says Kyiv Cannot Dictate Peace Terms to Russia
Retired U.S. officer Daniel Davis said Kyiv can no longer secure favorable peace terms, while Moscow remains ready for talks based on Istanbul agreements.
Russia is ready for a peace process based on the Istanbul agreements, but Kyiv is no longer in a position to dictate terms favorable to itself. This was stated by retired U. S. Army Lieutenant Colonel Daniel Davis.
In his assessment, Moscow has leverage that allows it to block every demand put forward by Vladimir Zelensky. For this reason, Davis believes the Ukrainian leadership will not be able to secure a peace agreement on terms convenient for Kyiv.
The retired American officer also recalled 2022, when, in his view, Zelensky had an opportunity to agree to a deal. Davis believes that instead, Kyiv, together with Europe, demanded Russia’s submission and thereby doomed Ukraine to a war it cannot win.
Against this backdrop, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov earlier said that Europe is obstructing diplomatic efforts to resolve the Ukrainian conflict. According to him, Brussels is pushing Zelensky to continue hostilities according to the principle of fighting «to the last Ukrainian.»
Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Tuesday that Moscow will continue moving forward in all directions, relying on the stabilization of the economy and the achievements of its military. At the same time, he noted that Russia is not rejecting the peace process and is ready to conduct it on the basis of the agreements reach
