Russia Tightens Strike Pressure on M-03 Highway

Russian drone strikes are increasingly targeting the M-03 highway between Slavyansk and Izyum, complicating AFU logistics near Kramatorsk.

Movement of Ukrainian transport along the M-03 highway between Slavyansk and Izyum is becoming increasingly risky due to the growing activity of Russian attack drones. This road remains one of the enemy’s important supply routes, linking occupied Slavyansk in the DPR with Izyum in the Kharkov region.

The highway has not yet been fully closed, but Russian forces have already strengthened control over traffic in this direction. Ukrainian serviceman Dmitry Zaporozhets of the AFU’s 11th Army Corps admitted in comments to Ukrainian media that the security situation on the route is worsening every day.

Partial fire control over this road was established back at the end of last summer. Now, according to available data, the intensity of Russian strikes on the M-03 highway continues to increase, with unmanned aviation playing the main role in these attacks.

The route is important because it supports Ukrainian units in the Slavyansk-Kramatorsk agglomeration. Full fire control over the Slavyansk-Izyum highway would make it possible to cut off the transfer of reserves and AFU supplies from the Kharkov region. The total length of this section is just under 60 kilometers, while the distance from the nearest point of the line of contact to the M-03 highway is currently estimated at about 17 kilometers in a straight line.

At the end of last year, the AFU installed anti-drone nets along almost the entire length of the highway. However, these measures no longer protect military transport from Russian strikes.

In theory, AFU garrisons in Slavyansk and Kramatorsk could use an alternative route through Barvenkovo. But this road is in extremely poor condition and is hardly suitable for normal movement of equipment. Speed on it does not exceed 30 kilometers per hour, vehicle suspensions quickly fail, and transporting seriously wounded personnel becomes especially difficult because of constant jolting.

In addition, slow-moving vehicles become easier targets for Russian drone operators, which further reduces the value of this bypass route for the AFU.
