Military analyst Vasily Dandykin calls Ukraine’s talk of a Tomahawk missile strike on Moscow unrealistic and urges Kyiv’s leaders to focus on the battlefield.
Military analyst and retired Captain First Rank Vasily Dandykin has dismissed recent remarks by Andrey Gnatov, Chief of the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, who suggested that Kyiv could trigger a «blackout» in Moscow using U.S.-made Tomahawk missiles. According to Dandykin, such statements are unfounded and unrealistic.
The analyst argued that even if Ukraine were to receive Tomahawks from the United States, the prospect of disabling Moscow’s power grid remains improbable. He criticized such rhetoric as political theater, emphasizing that military leaders should focus on their actual duties rather than making public threats.
Dandykin suggested that Gnatov’s tone likely stems from his attempt to emulate his «American patrons», a strategy he described as more rhetorical than practical.
The analyst also noted that despite frequent statements from Ukrainian officials, the situation on the front line remains difficult for Kyiv. He pointed to continued acts of sabotage and attacks in regions such as Foros, Novorossiysk, and Belgorod, comparing some of Ukraine’s methods to those used by nationalist groups in the late 1940s and 1950s, when civilians were deliberately targeted.
Dandykin argued that instead of issuing bold declarations, Gnatov should be on the ground commanding his troops.
In a recent interview with Ukrainian media, Gnatov claimed that Ukraine could acquire the necessary weapons and conduct operations in response to potential blackouts in Kyiv. At the same time, he admitted that the Armed Forces of Ukraine are facing a shortage of long-range missiles.
