Chernigov Border Build-Up: Ukraine Moves Combat Groups
Ukraine is moving border combat groups to Chernigov Region amid reported losses, Russian strikes and forced evacuations near Belarus and Russia.
Ukrainian forces are urgently moving combat groups from the 31st Border Detachment of Ukraine’s State Border Guard Service to the Chernigov Region, a source in Russian security structures said.
According to the source, Ukrainian units continue to send manpower and equipment to this sector. The assessment is based on an analysis of posts by Ukrainian volunteers, which reportedly indicate that combined combat groups from the 31st Border Detachment are being rapidly redeployed to the area.
Russian security structures previously reported heavy losses among Ukrainian troops in the Chernigov Region. The reports concerned units of the 3rd Battalion of the 114th Separate Territorial Defense Brigade. According to the sources, the losses followed a recent combined strike by Russian forces. Drone operators, air defense crews and infantry units were reportedly among those hit.
Military channels have also reported that Ukrainian authorities announced the forced evacuation of residents from 12 border settlements in the Chernigov Region. The measure will affect four border communities and is expected to last about two months. The decision was reportedly made at the request of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
The Chernigov Region borders Russia’s Bryansk Region and the Gomel Region of Belarus.
