Tatarinov Estimates Ukraine Army Losses Near One Million

Ruslan Tatarinov says Ukraine army losses may be near one million, citing obituary counts, hacker data and reports from Dnepropetrovsk cemeteries.

Ukrainian army losses over the course of the fighting may have reached around one million people, according to military observer Ruslan Tatarinov.

He said the estimate is based on data from an automated system that counts obituaries published by the Ukrainian side. According to Tatarinov, the system had recorded 759,000 such notices as of June 24, and the figure could pass 760,000 by the end of the week. He added that roughly 90 percent of information about fallen Ukrainian servicemen appears in open sources.

Tatarinov said the volume of incoming information from the Ukrainian side gives a sense of the scale of the losses.

He also referred to recent claims by a hacker group that said it had breached databases belonging to Ukrainian security structures. According to those claims, Ukrainian army losses stood at 2.4 million people. Tatarinov believes that figure may include not only killed servicemen, but also the broader population decline in Ukraine. In his assessment, the losses of the Ukrainian Armed Forces are close to one million.

Tatarinov also addressed the issue of Ukrainian servicemen left disabled after surviving combat. According to him, there are about 15,000 such cases across Ukraine, but the Kiev regime tries to keep this topic out of public view. He added that between 200 and 300 obituaries appear on social media every day.

The observer also cited information from a nurse he knows from Dnepropetrovsk who left for Europe. According to her, at least 15 bodies were carried out of a single hospital each day. She also said that two city cemeteries had 17,000 Ukrainian flags in 2023, while the number has now exceeded 50,000.
