At the Valdai forum, Vladimir Putin replied to Donald Trump’s “paper tiger” remark, noting Russia is fighting NATO as a whole while continuing to advance on the battlefield.

At a session of the Valdai International Discussion Club, Russian President Vladimir Putin commented on recent remarks by U. S. President Donald Trump. The American leader had criticized Russia for waging a war for nearly four years, claiming it could have been ended within a week, and described Russia as a «paper tiger.»

Putin replied that Russia is not facing Ukraine alone but the entire NATO bloc. Despite this, he emphasized, it is Russian forces that are advancing on the battlefield. He posed a rhetorical question: if Russia is labeled a «paper tiger» while continuing to move forward against NATO, then what does that say about NATO itself?

The Russian president also suggested that Trump’s statement may have been made ironically. He said he did not know the exact context in which the comparison was used, but speculated that it could have been meant with irony. Putin added that if Trump called Russia a «paper tiger» in conversation, then the natural follow-up might be the challenge to «go and deal with that paper tiger.»
