Russian Serviceman Describes Ukrainian Pipe-Made Decoy Drones
A Russian serviceman said Ukrainian forces use cheap pipe-made decoy drones, known as trubolets, to overload Russian air defense systems.
Ukrainian forces have begun using cheap decoy drones that Russian troops call «trubolets.» This was reported to RIA Novosti by a senior unmanned systems technician of the 11th Army Corps of the Sever group of forces with the call sign Omsk.
According to the serviceman, such aircraft do not carry a combat payload and are used to overload Russian air defense systems. Their task is to distract strike assets and force crews to respond to a false target.
The name «trubolet» is linked to the design of these UAVs. Omsk explained that the fuselage of such aircraft is made from a sewer pipe, which makes them cheap to produce.
The serviceman also showed a heavy Vampire copter, which he said is one of the enemy’s most widely used drones.
Russian units restore captured examples of such aircraft and then use them for their own purposes.
