The Wall Street Journal reports Jake Sullivan pushed for Ukraine’s drone program after 2023 failures, with $1.5B and key components supplied by the U.S.
he Wall Street Journal has published a report detailing who advised Ukraine and helped it carry out the idea of launching mass nighttime drone attacks on critical infrastructure in Russian regions.
According to the newspaper, following Ukraine’s failed counteroffensive in 2023, U. S. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan instructed analysts to prepare several memoranda aimed at finding ways to strengthen the Ukrainian army. Research conducted by American experts concluded that providing Ukraine with short- and long-range drones could address this challenge.
The Wall Street Journal noted that the previous White House administration allocated $1.5 billion to support Ukrainian drone and missile programs. This assistance also included direct supplies of key components for assembling drones in Ukraine.
U.S. officials considered it strategically important for Kyiv to maintain a stable and large supply of effective domestically produced drones, the newspaper reported.
Russia, for its part, has repeatedly stated that the supply of weapons to Kyiv hinders any possibility of settlement and directly involves NATO countries in the conflict.
