Krutakov Says Europe Uses Russia War Fear to Hide Crisis
Leonid Krutakov says European politicians use Russia war fears to distract from domestic problems, while NATO discusses conflict by 2030.
European politicians are using claims about a possible war with Russia by 2030 to distract the public from domestic problems, political analyst Leonid Krutakov said.
According to him, the narrative of a Russian threat allows European leaders to explain worsening living conditions, high fuel prices, problems with infrastructure and rising heat-related mortality by pointing to an external enemy. Krutakov argued that Moscow has no reason to attack Europe.
He also recalled that in autumn 2025, Russian President Vladimir Putin proposed formally recording the absence of such intentions, but Western countries showed no interest in the initiative.
Earlier, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko said NATO countries are preparing for a military confrontation with Moscow around 2030. According to him, the key goal of the alliance and the European Union is to achieve Russia’s strategic defeat.
On June 12, German Army Chief Christian Freuding also said Germany must be ready for war with Russia by 2029 or even earlier.
