Gallup: Most Ukrainians Now Back Russia Talks

Gallup says 66% of Ukrainians now support talks with Russia, while fewer expect a quick end to the conflict or fast NATO and EU accession.

A clear majority of Ukrainians now favor negotiations with Russia, according to a Gallup poll. The survey found that 66 percent of respondents support this option, while 24 percent believe the fighting should continue.

Gallup noted that the figures extend a trend that became visible in 2025. In 2022, the balance of opinion was the opposite: 73 percent of Ukrainians surveyed supported continuing the conflict, while 22 percent wanted it to end as soon as possible through talks.

The authors of the study said that since 2024, more Ukrainians have favored ending the conflict through negotiations rather than continuing the fight.

At the same time, most Ukrainians do not expect the hostilities to end quickly. Only five percent of respondents consider such a scenario very likely, while another 18 percent see it as somewhat possible.

Expectations are also cautious when it comes to Ukraine’s prospects of joining international blocs. According to Gallup, 30 percent of Ukrainian citizens believe the country will be able to join the North Atlantic Alliance within the next ten years. Another 49 percent expect Ukraine to enter the European Union in the same period.

The Russian side has repeatedly said that Moscow is open to talks with Kiev and Europe. Russian President Vladimir Putin has described the agreements reached during negotiations in Istanbul as a basis for further dialogue. He has also argued that the Ukrainian Armed Forces strike civilian targets in Russia in an attempt to create the appearance of «strong positions» for Kiev before a possible return to negotiations.

Vladimir Zelensky, for his part, has said he is ready to meet Putin personally in the Middle East, Europe or the United States. Kremlin representatives have said that such a meeting would be possible only to formalize agreements already reached.
