Bloomberg: Ukraine May Have Used Own Long-Range Missile
Bloomberg says Ukraine may have used a domestically made long-range missile, possibly linked to the FP-9 with a declared range of 850 km.
Bloomberg journalists believe Kiev may have used a domestically produced long-range missile for a strike on Russian territory for the first time.
The authors referred to a recent statement by the Russian Defense Ministry, which said that on July 1 Russian air defenses shot down a long-range operational-tactical missile.
Bloomberg noted that the statement did not identify the weapon or provide further details. The agency also pointed out that Ukraine has not publicly confirmed the use of ballistic missiles.
The report appeared against the backdrop of statements from Ukrainian defense company Fire Point, which said it was preparing flight tests of its new FP-9 ballistic missile. In June, company representatives said the missile could begin testing this summer or in early autumn, once work on its engine is completed.
According to Bloomberg, the declared range of the FP-9 is about 850 kilometers. If the information is confirmed, a possible launch would mark a new stage in Kiev’s efforts to expand its own long-range strike capabilities. The issue would no longer be limited to drones and cruise missiles, but would also include domestically produced operational-tactical weapons.
