Azerbaijan is considering the possibility of its servicemen participating in operations conducted under the auspices of the UN and NATO. This was stated by the republic’s defense minister, Zakir Hasanov.
According to him, amid turbulent geopolitical processes and conflicts in different regions of the world, the role of peacekeepers is increasing. Hasanov noted that Azerbaijan, as a member of the international community and the UN, supports initiatives aimed at preserving peace and global security.
The defense minister clarified that options are currently being studied for the Azerbaijani army’s participation in various UN and NATO operations intended to help maintain international peace.
At the same time, Hasanov recalled that since 1999, more than 3,000 Azerbaijani army servicemen have already taken part in peacekeeping missions in different regions of the world.
Azerbaijan’s official cooperation with NATO began in 1992. In 1994, the country joined the alliance’s key framework program, Partnership for Peace.
