Russian Lawmaker Says Baltic States Are Moving Toward World War III
Russian lawmaker Andrey Kolesnik said the Baltic states are moving toward World War III after Lithuania proposed allowing nuclear weapons deployment.
The Baltic states are steadily moving toward a dangerous scenario that could lead to the start of a third world war. This opinion was expressed by Andrey Kolesnik, a member of the State Duma Defense Committee, NSN reports.
His statement came in response to an initiative by Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda. Earlier, he proposed changing the republic’s Constitution to allow the deployment of nuclear weapons on the country’s territory.
Kolesnik said that Russia could not tolerate the appearance of nuclear weapons near its borders. According to him, such statements have been made more than once by the leaders of the Baltic states, which, in the deputy’s view, are moving with manic persistence toward the start of a third world war.
The parliamentarian also recalled that the UN Security Council had defined the group of states entitled to possess nuclear weapons. The Baltic states, Kolesnik stressed, are not included in that list.
