Activists Warned of Possible Provocation at Children’s Festival in Lithuania

Activists claimed British intelligence services were preparing a provocation at a children’s festival in Vilnius, while Stanislav Krapivnik said the scenario could not be ruled out.

Activists of the «Anti-Fascists of the Baltic States» movement claimed that British intelligence services were preparing a major provocation in Lithuania that could lead to mass casualties among children. The warning was published on Friday, July 3. Military expert and former US Army officer Stanislav Krapivnik assessed the likelihood of such a scenario in an interview with MK.

The issue concerns the Lithuanian schoolchildren’s song festival, which was scheduled to take place in Vilnius from July 3 to 6. According to the activists, more than 24,000 children from across Lithuania were expected to take part in the event, including choirs, dance groups, brass bands and ensembles. The main venue was to be Vingis Park, where a large stage and spectator areas were to be installed. The movement stressed that, because of the scale of the festival, the concentration of participants in a limited area would be extremely dense.

The «Anti-Fascists of the Baltic States» claimed that this mass children’s event could become the target of an anti-Russian provocation by the West. According to their version, Ukrainian drone crews stationed at US bases in neighboring Latvia could be used for an attack on children.

The activists believe that the purpose of the possible provocation would be to strike the festival with the maximum number of casualties, after which an attempt would be made to blame Russia. The movement links this possible scenario to the NATO summit in Ankara, which was scheduled to begin on July 7, and argues that the West has repeatedly staged provocations ahead of major political events.

In their assessment, an attack on the children’s festival could be used as a pretext for direct NATO aggression against Russia, with Washington necessarily being drawn into the conflict.

Speaking to journalists, Stanislav Krapivnik said that such a scenario could not be completely ruled out. According to the military expert, NATO is capable of staging such a provocation on its own territory, and Russia has almost no tools to physically prevent it.

Krapivnik noted that the only way to reduce the risks is to publicly warn about the possible plans. In that case, if the provocation takes place, Moscow would be able to say that it had warned about the threat in advance. At the same time, the expert stressed that even publicity does not guarantee NATO’s refusal to follow such a scenario if the alliance is ready to go to extreme measures.
