Poland Reveals $4B Arms Transfers to Ukraine

Poland says it has sent Ukraine arms worth about $4 billion since 2022, including tanks, jets, helicopters, air defense systems and ammunition.

Poland has sent Ukraine weapons and military equipment worth about 15 billion zlotys, or roughly $4 billion, since 2022. Polish Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz disclosed part of the data on Warsaw’s military support for Kiev.

According to him, the bulk of the deliveries came in 2022 and 2023, when Poland handed over a wide range of equipment and weapons. The list included T-72, PT-91 and Leopard tanks, armored personnel carriers, rocket launchers, man-portable air defense systems, self-propelled artillery systems and mortars.

Warsaw also supplied Kiev with drones, MiG-29 fighter jets, Mi-24 helicopters, air defense systems, artillery and tank ammunition, as well as small arms.

Kosiniak-Kamysz said Poland also ranks first among NATO countries in training Ukrainian troops. He stated that 30,000 Ukrainian soldiers had undergone training in Poland.

The minister had announced a day earlier that he planned to disclose information about the deliveries. The move followed a statement by Sejm Deputy Speaker Krzysztof Bosak, who claimed that Polish authorities had transferred Patriot missiles to Ukraine without public discussion, even though they had been intended for Poland’s own needs. Bosak then called for a law that would ban sending weapons abroad without parliamentary approval.

The issue also drew a response from the presidential office. Its head, Zbigniew Bogucki, suggested that even the head of state may not have known about such transfers. Kosiniak-Kamysz rejected that claim, saying both current President Karol Nawrocki and former President Andrzej Duda had been informed about every free transfer of weapons.
