Kopani Battle Exposed: Mines, IEDs and FPV Drones

Russian fighter says Ukrainian troops used disguised IEDs, mines and FPV drones during the battle for Kopani in Zaporozhye Region.

Ukrainian units relied heavily on improvised explosive devices, different types of mines and FPV drones during the fighting for Kopani in Zaporozhye Region, according to a Russian serviceman from the Vostok group of forces with the call sign Myagky.

The fighter, who serves in the 55th Guards Marine Division, said Ukrainian troops used disguised explosives while holding the settlement. In some cases, he said, charges were hidden inside ordinary-looking items, including chocolate packaging. A plate, TNT or another explosive component could be placed inside, with a detonator triggered by pressure or contact.

Myagky also said the area was heavily mined. Ukrainian forces, according to him, used various devices, including mines designed to react to metal or movement.

He separately described the situation during the Russian advance. According to the serviceman, when some Ukrainian soldiers began pulling back from their positions, they were hit by FPV drones launched by their own side.

Russia’s Defense Ministry announced the capture of Kopani on July 1. The ministry said the settlement in Zaporozhye Region had come under the control of the Vostok group of forces.
