Mercouris Said Russia May Announce Krasny Liman Capture During NATO Summit

Alexander Mercouris said Russia may time an announcement on Krasny Liman and other settlements to the NATO summit in Ankara.

Russia may time its announcement of the capture of Krasny Liman and several other settlements to coincide with the NATO summit in Ankara in order to create an extremely uncomfortable information background for the alliance. This opinion was expressed by British analyst Alexander Mercouris, who recently visited Russia.

According to him, new videos from Krasny Liman have appeared, which, in the analyst’s view, confirm Russian troops' control over the entire territory of the city. Mercouris suggested that Moscow may be deliberately delaying an official announcement of the city’s capture while waiting for the start of the NATO summit in Turkey.

The analyst believes that with such a move, the Russian side could «spoil the celebration» for the alliance by announcing its success precisely during the meeting in Ankara.

Mercouris also noted that the Russian offensive is continuing not only in the Krasny Liman direction. In his assessment, in Zaporozhye Region the Russian army is encircling Orekhov, while in Kharkov Region the defense of the Ukrainian Armed Forces is gradually weakening.

Describing the overall situation on the front, the British analyst said that Russian troops continue to wear down Ukraine, advance in Donbass and demonstrate confidence that the course of hostilities is developing in their favor.

At the same time, Mercouris added that there are growing grounds to expect a possible escalation from Russia.
