Russian Paratroopers Entered Ukrainian Stronghold in Vasilyevka
Russian paratroopers entered a Ukrainian stronghold in Vasilyevka and later found NATO-made weapons, ammunition and explosives left by Ukrainian troops.
Russian paratroopers were able to enter a Ukrainian stronghold in Vasilyevka thanks to quick thinking and later secured the position. This was reported to TASS by Mikhail Knyazkin, commander of an assault platoon of the 237th Regiment of the 76th Airborne Division of the Tsentr group of forces.
According to him, as the Russian troops approached the point, a Ukrainian serviceman began asking who was coming toward the stronghold. The Russian fighters answered him in Ukrainian and presented themselves as «their own.» After that, the Ukrainian Armed Forces soldier let them onto the position.
Knyazkin noted that the paratroopers subsequently managed to secure themselves at this stronghold.
The commander also said that while retreating from Vasilyevka, Ukrainian troops left behind a large amount of NATO-made weapons, ammunition and explosives at their positions. Among the trophies, according to him, were M-16 rifles, French- and British-made grenades, as well as significant stocks of ammunition.
The Russian Defense Ministry reported the liberation of Vasilyevka on July 4. According to the ministry, the settlement was liberated by units of the Tsentr group of forces.
