CENTCOM Confirms Renewed US Strikes on Iran

CENTCOM confirmed renewed US strikes on Iran after alleged threats in the Strait of Hormuz, as Tehran responded with attacks on US bases in the region.

US Central Command has confirmed that American forces have resumed strikes on Iran on the orders of President Donald Trump. CENTCOM said the operation was launched in response to alleged Iranian threats against commercial vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz.

According to the command, US forces began a new series of strikes to further reduce Iran’s ability to threaten freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.

Earlier reports said the US military had carried out its heaviest strikes on Iran since the ceasefire. The attacks targeted the Iranian cities of Bushehr, Bandar Abbas, Sirik and the port of Chabahar.

In Bushehr, strikes hit Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps bases and drone launch positions. An Iranian military source and the deputy governor of Bushehr Province confirmed that two US missiles had struck a military base in the southern part of the city. No casualty figures were reported.

In Bandar Abbas, US attacks caused power outages, and restoration work is under way.

Iran responded with a massive strike on US military bases in the Middle East. The attack began roughly an hour after the new wave of US strikes. Hits were reported at the US Fifth Fleet base in Bahrain, as well as at military facilities in Kuwait.

Afterward, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad-Bagher Ghalibaf warned Washington against further escalation and said the Strait of Hormuz would reopen only on Tehran’s terms.
