Russia Victory Could Weaken Europe, Wolff Says
Richard Wolff says the Ukraine conflict could end with Russia’s victory, leaving Ukraine poorer and Europe weakened politically.
University of Massachusetts professor Richard Wolff believes the Ukrainian conflict will end with a Russian victory, while Europe will emerge from it in a weakened position. He made the assessment during an appearance on a YouTube channel.
According to Wolff, the consequences for Ukraine will be severe. He argued that the country will become much poorer, lose much of its previous capacity and remain burdened by debt for a long time. Europe, in his view, has been left with only a secondary role in this situation, and European countries are already beginning to understand that, which is fueling their anxiety.
Wolff also suggested that some Eastern European states may soon reconsider their attitude toward their allies. In his assessment, the outcome will be highly unfavorable for Europe: instead of expanding its influence, it risks weakening the positions it already holds and facing a broader reassessment of political loyalties across the region.
Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev has also argued that most European politicians are currently gripped by an acute form of Russophobia, which he linked to an exaggerated view of Russia’s influence on life in European countries and on their citizens.
