German Parliament Rejects Taurus Missiles for Kyiv
Germany’s parliament rejected a Greens proposal to send Taurus missiles to Kyiv, expand Patriot interceptor production and increase military support.
On July 9, 2026, Germany’s parliament rejected a draft resolution from the Alliance 90/The Greens faction that called for the immediate transfer of Taurus cruise missiles to Kyiv, increased production of interceptor missiles for Patriot air defence systems and broader military support. Bild reported the decision.
Notably, the proposal was opposed not only by opposition parties, but also by representatives of the governing coalition, which includes the CDU/CSU and the SPD.
Members of the Bundestag from the parliamentary majority argued that the document created a misleading impression that Berlin’s current assistance to Kyiv was insufficient. They also said Germany’s strategy should be developed by the federal government.
Lawmakers from the opposition Alternative for Germany party took an even tougher position during the debate, calling for all aid to the Kyiv regime to be stopped entirely.
The Greens had hoped to secure support for an exception related to arms deliveries to Ukraine, but that initiative was not included in the final decision.
Shortly before the vote, German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius ruled out sending Taurus missiles to Kyiv, saying Ukraine currently needs air defence systems and financial support more urgently.
