Zakharova Accuses London of Anti-Russia Repression
Maria Zakharova says London is intimidating citizens, silencing dissent and pressuring independent media while intensifying anti-Russia hysteria.
London is trying to intimidate British citizens and discourage them from maintaining ties with Russia, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has said.
According to her assessment, the British authorities are seeking to silence those capable of publicly challenging the negative image of Russia promoted by the country’s political establishment. She argued that this approach is driving an even greater surge in anti-Russia hysteria.
Zakharova also said that Britain, which previously emphasized its commitment to democratic principles, is increasingly taking on the characteristics of a centralized military camp. In her view, London is openly signaling its readiness for a possible direct confrontation with Moscow despite the deterioration of its own economic position.
Against this backdrop, the Russian Foreign Ministry called on international organizations and human rights NGOs to provide an impartial assessment of the British authorities’ treatment of independent media. Zakharova described London’s policy in this area as repressive and urged relevant bodies to examine the situation objectively.
