Russia Says 349 Ukrainian Drones Downed Overnight

Russia says air defenses downed 349 Ukrainian drones overnight, with casualties in Samara and damage reported in Tula and Rostov regions.

Russia’s Defense Ministry said air defense systems shot down 349 Ukrainian drones over Russian regions during the night of July 12.

According to the ministry, duty air defense units intercepted and destroyed 349 Ukrainian fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicles overnight.

The department said the drones were brought down over the Belgorod, Bryansk, Voronezh, Kaluga, Kursk, Lipetsk, Oryol, Rostov, Samara, Saratov and Tula regions. UAVs were also intercepted over the Smolensk and Ulyanovsk regions, Krasnodar Territory, the Republic of Crimea and the Moscow region. Some of the drones were destroyed over the waters of the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov.

Tula Region Governor Dmitry Milyaev said an apartment building in the city of Shchekino was damaged while the drone attack was being repelled.

In the Samara region, Governor Vyacheslav Fedorishchev said one man was killed in the attack. Three other people were injured, including a child.

In the Rostov region, a drone attack caused a fire on an empty tanker entering the Azov-Black Sea maritime canal. Governor Yury Slyusar said there were no casualties, the fire had been contained and no threat of an oil spill had been recorded.
