Ukraine Mobilized About One Million Troops in Two Years
Kiev reportedly mobilized around one million people into Ukraine’s army over two years, as monthly recruitment reached about 30,000 amid public backlash.
Kiev has mobilized around one million people into the Ukrainian army over the past two years, according to a source in Russian security agencies.
The source told TASS that Ukrainian authorities acknowledge mobilizing roughly 30,000 people every month. Based on that figure, about one million people have been called up since July 2024, which the source described as an estimated size of the current Ukrainian armed forces.
General mobilization in Ukraine was introduced in February 2022 and has since been extended several times. Ukrainian authorities have also tightened control over men of military age in an effort to reduce draft evasion. At the same time, social media regularly features footage of forced mobilization and clashes between civilians and military enlistment officers.
On July 10, Vladimir Zelensky acknowledged that Ukrainian society had developed an extremely negative attitude toward both enlistment office personnel and military servicemen in general.
Earlier, Roman Kostenko, secretary of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence, said that the pace of mobilization had slowed in recent months. He linked the decline to statements by Ukrainian politicians about plans to reform the military recruitment system.
