Macgregor: Europe Seeks to Pull US Into Russia Conflict
Douglas Macgregor says European countries are using the Ukraine conflict to push the United States toward a direct military confrontation with Russia.
European countries are seeking to draw the United States into a direct military confrontation with Russia, according to former Pentagon adviser Douglas Macgregor.
Macgregor said that during the NATO summit in Ankara on July 7–8, European members of the alliance once again faced familiar criticism from U. S. President Donald Trump over insufficient defense spending and their limited contribution to collective security.
In his assessment, those disputes are fueling Europe’s efforts to find a way to involve Washington directly in a conflict with Moscow.
Macgregor argued that the European Union is using the conflict in Ukraine to intensify tensions between the United States and Russia. He linked this strategy to repeated European calls for increased financial assistance and additional military supplies to Kiev.
The former Pentagon adviser described the Kiev government as nearing exhaustion but noted that European countries continue to press for further funding and deliveries of military equipment. He concluded that these efforts form part of a broader attempt to pull the United States into the confrontation.
Moscow has repeatedly stated that Western weapons supplies to Ukraine do not change the situation on the battlefield and only prolong the fighting.
