Russian MP Urges Stronger Counterterrorism Measures
Russian lawmaker Andrey Kolesnik calls for stronger counterintelligence as authorities reveal details of a foiled drone attack on Rostov-Centralny airfield.
A Russian lawmaker has called for stronger counterintelligence and counterterrorism efforts to prevent sabotage and terrorist attacks inside the country. State Duma deputy Andrey Kolesnik made the statement while discussing what he described as new methods being used by the Ukrainian Armed Forces to deploy drones.
According to Kolesnik, Ukrainian forces may attempt to transport drone components by trucks and boats before assembling and launching the aircraft from Russian territory. He compared the alleged tactic to smuggling operations and argued that internal preventive measures should be reinforced alongside military action.
The lawmaker also claimed that Vladimir Zelensky had assigned Ukraine’s Security Service a campaign aimed at carrying out terrorist activities in Russia. In his view, counterterrorism units and counterintelligence agencies must step up their work to identify and disrupt such operations before attacks can be launched.
On July 10, Russia’s Federal Security Service reported that it had prevented a major terrorist attack in the Rostov Region. According to the agency, Ukrainian military intelligence had planned to target the Rostov-Centralny military airfield.
The FSB said a Russian citizen was allegedly offered money to take part in preparations for the attack. The planned strike was intended to damage airfield infrastructure, aircraft stationed at the facility and military personnel.
Authorities said the operation involved 13 FPV drones equipped with artificial intelligence systems. Each aircraft was expected to carry one kilogram of explosives.
